While looking at my stock portfolio I noticed that it becomes quite time consuming to look up every stock to see how well they are doing. Are they weakening, getting stronger or remaining stable? I created a simple tool that allows users to upload their portfolios from Fidelity, Etrade and Schwab. It may work with other brokerage also but they have not been tested. All of these brokerages allow exporting the portfolio via .csv file. Once this file is generated, head over to http://megascreener.com
Simply select the .csv file to upload and the website does the rest. It is advisable for your safety to remove any columns that contain account numbers. The script strips out this data if it is included.
Once uploaded, you are free to hide any columns you don’t want and can be minimized afterwards. While doing this, the 3 year financial data for each of your stock positions is being downloaded and value such as “growing, weakening or stable” is being calculated.
Once done loading all of the data, you can go to the save icon in the upper right to save. The portfolio is saved locally to your browsers local storage and not on a database. No usernames or login required.
The data is 3 years of annual data. When the majority of values are headed upwards then the indicator for that value will show growth. If a majority of these values are headed upwards, then it will show growth or strengthening and visa versa it will show weakening.
If you are like me and you like to hold stocks for several years and not jump in and out quarter to quarter, this may be useful to you. Rather than looking at quarterly earning, analyst recommendations which tend to be short term in nature this adds something that is lacking on most portfolio pages. Feel free to try it out and offer any suggestions or comments.
Megascreener also has an advanced stock screener. In fact, it is one of the most advanced stock screeners out there that I have used. It does discounted cash flow which is already more than most stock screeners do. Not only that but the stock screener has accelerated growth settings for Sales, Net Income and Net Margin. So if these values are growing faster than their historic growth rate, then only those stocks will appear. This is extremely valuable in finding companies that are really taking off or improving. All of this is currently free with no signups needed! It currently works for US listed stocks. https://megascreener.com

https://techfinology.us/adding-financial-health-checker-to-your-portfolio/

While looking at my stock portfolio I noticed that it becomes quite time consuming to look up every stock to see how well they are doing. However, some may see this is worth the risk especially if it outperforms the market when it goes up.
📊 The Least Diversified ETFs (100 or Fewer Stocks) 💡 Tip: Scroll or drag horizontally to view all columns Open in new tab ↗ iShares has new ETFs launched in 2024, iShares Nasdaq Top 30 Stocks (QTOP), iShares Top 20 U.S. Stocks ETF (TOPT) and iShares Nasdaq-100 ex Top 30 ETF (QNXT). The last one is probably the most unique because it excludes the top 30 largest companies.
Invesco NASDAQ Next Gen 100 ETF (QQQJ) which started in 2020 also excludes the largest stocks. It excludes the largest 100 companies from the Nasdaq so selects 200-300 largest companies instead.
The smallest number of stocks is iShares Top 20 U.S. Stocks ETF (TOPT) which has only 21 stocks at the time of this writing.
The largest ETFs by market cap is Invesco QQQ Trust (QQQ) which has about $288 billion in assets. The Technology Select Sector SPDR Fund (XLK)is second with around $72B. The ones with the least amount of assets so far are the brand new ones such as iShares Nasdaq-100 ex Top 30 ETF (QNXT) which only has $15M.
The strangest one is the Sofi Social 50 (XNTK). It only invests in the most popularly held stocks by Sofi Invest users and is also adjusted monthly which is unusual. The performance recently has been good but they are still failing to bring in large amounts of money at only $20M which isn’t very much for an ETF.
The most boring ones are probably the Dow Jones Industrial Average based ones which have sort of under performed the S&P 500. Out of all of them, the Schwab U.S. Dividend Equity ETF (SCHD) pays the most dividend with a 4.03% dividend yield while still being fairly well performing for the group. SCHD is also has the lowest expense ratio at .06% vs .60% for the highest one, Invesco Dorsey Wright Technology Momentum ETF (PTF).
There are more ETFs that have less than 100 stocks but many are sector specific or are really small (low assets) or have higher fees so I excluded those.
The top performers for the last 5 years were the ETFs with the most tech such as PTF(100%) XLK (100%), XNTK (72%), and MGK(61%). QQQ(59%) is not far behind. The 5 year performance was pretty much in that order based on the tech percentage.
Another 100% tech one is the XITK SPDR FactSet Innovative Technology ETF. Although it has 100% in tech the performance was not as good as the others that hold the usual large cap stocks. XITK holds an unusual mix of stocks.
The 10 year performance was more of the same. Tech is still the winner and all of the same ETFs are still in the list with QQQ(59%) jumping up even higher as shown in red. The benchmark Vanguard S&P 500 (VOO) with 500 stocks and 31% tech falls slightly in the middle and COWZ beat VOO slightly even with only 21% tech.
FDN despite having 39% tech which is greater than VOO (31%) trailed the Vanguard S&P 500 VOO slightly at 87% vs 106% return. FDN has a very high .50% fee which probably contributes to this.
** DJIA and Dividend ETFS**
After removing all of these tech heavy ETFs and comparing the DJIA and Dividend ETFs for the 5 year we see that it is pretty much more of the same with the heaviest tech percentages leading the 5 year returns: Pacer US Cash Cows 100 COWZ(21%) First Trust Dow Jones Internet Index FND(37%), SPDR Dow Jones DIA(20%). However, coming in second to third most of the time is Charles Schwab US Dividend Equity ETF SCHD(9%). This one is a bit unusual because it has one of the highest dividend yields also at 4.03%. When turning off dividend reinvestment it still stays about in the same second to third place.
The 10 year return is shown below.
FDN which has 37% tech, the highest in the group was the #1 performer from 12/16/2016 till 12/9/2024. This eight year period was used instead of ten years because COWZ started then. FDN , COWZ , DIA and SCHD were the top performers while DVY and SPYD were the worst performers. DVY and SPYD both have the least amount of tech at 3% and 8% respectively.
** NASDAQ based ETFS**
Many of these ETFs are brand new so couldn’t be compared and so I used a 4 yr time period from the date that QQQA was started in 2021.
The performance winners for this time period are yet again the ETFs with the most percentage invested in technology. PTF (100%), QQQ (59%) and QQQA (47%).
The 10 year performance is show in the chart below. There were only two ETFs that have been around for 10 years that is why there isn’t much to look at. PTF did very well and QQQ as well.
** Other ETFs**
The 5 year performance worst performance is a toss up between S&P 500 Quality Index SPHQ (33%) and XITK (100%). The Technology Select Sector SPDR Fund (XLK) (100%), SPDR NYSE Technology (XNTK) (72%), Vanguard Mega Cap Growth (MGK) (61%) and surprisingly S&P 500 Momentum Index (SPMO) (39%) were the top performers. SPMO has the second least amount of tech at 39% which did well considering this. However, it was neck and neck with XLG which has has 42% tech until just recently.
The Sofi Social 50 SFYF did somewhere in the middle performance.
The 10 year performance is show below. I am using 8 years since one of the ETFs wasn’t around then.
XITK ’s inception date was 2016 so that is the start point so this is about 8 years.
The performance is more or less the same as before with the tech heavy XLK , MGK and XNTK leading. The ETF with the least tech percentages were SPHQ (33%), SPMO (39%) and XLG (43%). Two of these can be seen near the bottom as some of the worst performers for this group.
** Conclusion**
The conclusion here is that tech has done well over the last 5 and 10 year period and having a high percentage of technology stocks in the portfolio contributes to a higher percentage return during this period shown. There were some exceptions like COWZ(21%) and SCHD (9%) which did better than their percentage of tech held.

https://techfinology.us/the-least-diversified-etfs-with-100-or-less-stocks/

I looked at a large number of US index based equity ETFs that are technology or general equity ETFs and selected the ones with 100 or fewer stocks to see how well they did vs the indexes such as Invesco QQQ Trust (QQQ) , Vanguard S&P 500 ETF (VOO).

With fewer stocks these are likely to go up or down more when the stock market goes up or down. This timeout was usually temporary and would resolve itself with time. In some cases the user could call in and verify some information to unlock the account, all usually done within 5 minutes.
Now, however, some banks and fintechs are pushing this to a new level. Instead of a 5 minute fix some companies such as Chime are locking down the account for 30 days or more for simply entering in the wrong password. Some users have had accounts locked for 90 days or more. One woman in Atlanta had the account locked for 10 months.
The reason for this I believe is a result of their being very little government oversight regarding what is the proper procedure for locking accounts. The government lets companies decide on their own what the best practice is and for how long to lock accounts.
This plus the fact that filing a complaint with a fintech takes twice as much work because there are two companies to deal with the fintech and the FDIC bank they work with. So in the end the customer has to do double the amount of complaints.
Another thing that is especially important right now is that the federal funds rate or interest rate is very high. Banks can buy treasuries and get a 5%+ return or loan out the money at a high rate.
Fintechs such as Chime don’t pay any interest on their checking account so can freeze the account and then get a high return on the frozen customer funds without having to pay the customer.
A trap that some of the companies are using is to have two accounts such as a checking account that pays zero as well as a savings account. Transfers in and out go into the checking which pays zero. So if the checking account has a large transfer going in or money that is ready to go out an incentive exists to lock the account down.
Some of these fintechs such as Current bank have a built in trap to lower the rate. The rate boost is dependent on direct deposit. As soon as the direct deposits stop, then the rate drops.
So, for example if the account is frozen, perhaps the direct deposits will stop or the customer will cancel the direct deposit since he/she no longer has access to the bank account. In such a case, the bank will be able to use all funds in the account at a much lower rate then such as .25% with Current vs 4.00% APY with the direct deposit.
The reason for locking the account could be almost anything and the company is free not to tell the end users the reason for locking the accounts.
Watch the video to find the best way to reduce the bank freezing risk.
Varo Bank $35 no direct deposit required. I compared Vanguard, Fidelity and Schwab to see which one may work as a regular bank account. Can Vanguard checkwriting on the Vanguard Federal Money Market Fund be used for bill pay? I look at this topic.
I compared eleven online high yield savings accounts paying 4.75% APY to 5.15% APY. Wealthfront, Marcus, Vio Bank, ValleyDirect, Redneck Bank, Evergreen Bank, Laurel Road, UFB Direct, Fidelity and Bask Bank.
All of these accounts are FDIC insured while the fidelity investment accounts are insured by the SIPC.
Fidelity is the only brokerage account that offers a high enough of an interest rate and enough features in order to compete with high yield online savings accounts. Schwab and Vanguard simply either don’t pay enough interest or have enough features.
High yield savings accounts still manage to beat Fidelity with a higher interest rate as well as FDIC insurance which is in my opinion far superior to the SIPC insurance offered by Fidelity brokerage accounts.
So in the end high yield savings accounts still win, however for those who use Fidelity for lots of investing it may still be a wonderful option.

https://techfinology.us/fidelity-money-market-vs-savings-accounts/
Can Fidelity Money Market account beat online high yield savings accounts? After getting one of the text codes wrong Chime locked me out of the account. They then asked for an image of the front and back of my drivers license in order for them to reactivate the account. This is where the scam starts.
Now that they have a reasonable excuse to have locked the account, why not just keep the account locked indefinitely and keep the money? I believe this is what they are doing.
They asked for the front and back images of my drivers license which I sent. They then stated they needed a utility bill which I also sent. Then they follow up that they need another photo of the drivers license with a different colored background. I complied and did all of these things with perfectly clear and easy to read images.
They then follow up over and over asking for the same thing with a different background. If you ask them what is the specific issue with the image, they fail to respond but just respond with the same canned response and hope that the user gives up and they get to keep the money or hold it as long as possible.
I got a certified letter recently from the FDIC holding bank, Stride Bank with basically the same message asking for the front and back of the drivers license on a different background.
Stride Bank spent $8.10 on this certified letter only to tell me the same thing. What is funny is that the inside of the envelop has “FDIC” patterns on the envelope to make the scam seem more official
The letter shows that it was sent from the Vice President of Enterprise Risk and the name is a very scammy name. The name looks like “Wallet Shaker” which is up there with Bernie Madoff (Made Off). The name is only signed, not printed out so I have no idea what the exact name is.
So the goal, in my opinion, is to get me to keep goofing around with Chime sending images over and over and them failing to accept. I am not going to fall for this. I am going to ask for full refund and will not fall for the verification scam or work with them in any such way.
So I guess the next step is to do a follow up complaint with the Office of the Currency Controller again and ask for a full refund for my deposited amount which I already did or wait for my CFPB (Consumer Financial Protection Bureau) complaint with Chime to be responded too which it has not been.

https://techfinology.us/scammed-by-chime-bank-update/

I was recently scammed by Chime bank shortly before my first $20 deposit went through.
